Reishi Mushrom is one of the most important of the Chinese Tonic Herbs. For over three thousand years it has been the most sought after substance in nature by mountain sages and by the emperors and empresses of the east. The first Chinese herbal text (Shennong’s Pharmacopeia) written about 2400 years ago said that “continuous consumption of Reishi makes your body light and young, lengthens your life and turns you into one like the immortal who never dies.” Thus Reishi was traditionally called the mushroom of immortality.
As a Jing tonic, Reishi is believed to have major life lengthening effects when consumed over a long period of time. It is believed to build primal power and to replenish energy spent handling stressful situations.
As a Chi tonic, Reishi is used to build energy, although it is slightly sedative in the short run. Reishi is believed by Japanese and Chinese researchers to have a regulatory effect on the immune system, bringing up immune functions in cases of immunodeficiency and reducing the excesses associated with auto-immune conditions. Reishi is a superb tonic for people who suffer from chronic allergies.
Reishi mushroom has always been regarded as one of the most precious, one of the most sought-after, and one of the most revered substances in nature. Its historical use goes back thousands of years, and from day one, they’ve said that it is completely non-toxic and safe to take every day over a long period of time. They say that consistent consumption of reishi mushroom will make the body light like an immortal fairy who never dies. That’s actually a quote from an ancient text, talking about reishi. I’ve done some research and in some old Taoist text, and they basically say the same thing, they call it “magic mushroom,” they say that finding a wild specimen of it can basically give you immortality, or at least the perception of such, or at least elevate your consciousness where such a thing is, and could be, possible.
Reishi, in our classification, is a three treasure tonic. It nourishes the Jing, the chi and the shen. Reishi is primarily being studied now and being bred and being grown for its immunological functions, for its adaptogenic functions, for its anti-inflammatory and liver-protective functions. Its spiritual properties are really not in the forefront, although it can have these effects. But this is not really why people seem to be into it. However, this is part of the main reasons why I was attracted to it and why I continued to take it every day.
So reishi, as a shen tonic, as a spirit tonic, is known to burn karma, is known to help to help us release psychic baggage or any kind of negativity that we may be carrying around with us. It helps us open our heart and connect to ourselves, to our higher selves, to our higher consciousness. It helps us relax our brain more from beta and more into alpha state, and it helps us feel like we’re more in a meditative state all the time, even if we’re not a meditative practitioner. But if we are a meditative practitioner, I couldn’t imagine any kind of spiritual practice without this herb, because it can really help remove the blockages and speed up the whole process and relay just burn up any kind of negativity. And if you look at what reishi does in nature, it decomposes and recycles things, so it grows on old trees, decomposes and recycles them, so when we take it in, it decomposes and recycles old junk that might be floating around in us, psychic toxins, psychological thought patterns and habits that no longer serve us.
